Original Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami is reportedly not interested in returning to the franchise. It isn’t exactly clear why, but we can assume he simply doesn’t want to return to Capcom.
During a live talk, Mikami took the stage alongside Resident Evil 2 director, Hideki Kamiya, to discuss a fair bit, if Genkai_JPN is to be believed. Sometime during the discussion, the idea of the OG returning to the franchise was thrown around, but he supposedly isn’t interested. Considering the director left Tango Gameworks, which he founded, after over a decade, a lot of new opportunities could rear their heads, but we wouldn’t get too excited as no official collaboration between the director and Kamiya is in the public’s attention.
Other highlights of the talk included Kamiya wants to make Viewtiful Joe 3, Kamiya still wished Devil May Cry 3 was a Resident Evil entry, and how both still want to see another Okami game.
Some interesting points from the Shinji Mikami x Hideki Kamiya live talk!
– Kamiya-san was very nervous to be on stage with Mikami-san and respects him a lot.
– Kamiya said Mikami taught him all he knows.
– Mikami is not interested in working on the Resident Evil series again.
