Pokemon-like Temtem ending new content patches

in News

Crema Games’ 2022 Pokemon-like, Temtem, is putting an end to its content updates soon. Its next “normal sized” patch, 1.7, is due out in June and will contain all the standard fare that we expect from the team’s patches, while the subsequent patch, 1.8, will be its last feature-oriented patch.

In a long letter to the community on its website, the team explained that the team is in “technical debt” and that the game wasn’t built around endless content, meaning that with every unplanned feature added or existing thing modified, it runs the risk of becoming more and more complicated.

Crema isn’t giving up on it entirely, though, with this next patch, players will no longer be able to purchase Novas, its premium currency, and will be able to purchase all items previously locked behind that wall with the in-game Feathers. The patch after 1.7 will include stuff that ensures the “game’s longevity.” It isn’t clear if the team is going to continue to update the game in any capacity past 1.8. Perhaps we’ll see some minor tweaks in optimization, but that’s to be seen.

Temtem has, in the end, gone past the team’s goal for the creature capture game, stuffing in 165 Tems to collect and multiple islands to explore. Unfortunately, it’s not a greatly surprising thing, considering it’s found itself trapped with less than 500 active players in the last 24 hours and 2.2K players as its peak in the last year, it’s not as popular as the team likely hoped it would be. On top of that, its above indie asking price of $45 definitely didn’t help its case.
