After a long relationship, Riot Games has shuttered Hytale developer Hypixel Studios before it could officially launch its debut game.
The developer confirmed its closure in a post on its website, stating that it is winding down Hypixel Studios in the coming months as the team couldn’t keep ambitions in check and the scope of the project continued to grow and grow. These ambitions were even too much for the team even after rebooting its game engine and it simply wasn’t as far along as it should’ve been.
“Our technical ambitions grew more complex, and even after a major reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale still wasn’t as far along as it needed to be. It became clear we’d need a lot more time to get it to a place where it could support the ambitious vision for the game.”
Considering Riot’s involvement since 2015, funding the team’s endeavor, only to purchase it in 2020, with no tangible release, it’s not too shocking that Riot must’ve grown a bit impatient as it continued to aid in a studio that kept raising the project’s scope, thus requiring more money until likely the parent had enough and it decided to shut down the studio.
