Sega recently announced Crazy Taxi World Tour during the Xbox Showcase, revitalizing the arcade racing franchise for the modern market. The new Crazy Taxi game is currently scheduled to launch on multiple gaming platforms in 2027. Players can wishlist it on Steam, which also includes a genAI disclaimer that mentions the use of AI during its game development.
The disclaimer confesses how the AI tools weren’t used to replace the developers, but to support their productivity and creativity. Kenji Kanno, the original series creator, discussed more about the use of generative AI with Kotaku, emphasizing its supportive role of providing references rather than usable models for the game. Human developers still had to finalize the AI-created inspirations and refurbish the designs before placing them in-game.
“For us, the extent of how we use generative AI is only what I mentioned earlier; [It’s] just for ideas and just as a reference. Moving forward in the future [generative AI] is probably going to be more of a hot topic, but I think that’s all I can say right now on how we use generative AI for this game.”
Sega recognizes the growing arguments for using AI, but also points out the benefits of progressing through game development. It sees AI tools as a chance to lessen the workload to create high-quality AAA experiences for demanding projects.
