Portal-hopping combat is set to evolve in 2025. Splitgate 2 has been revealed and will be playable at Gamescom.
Announced with an eye-popping cinematic on YouTube, the evolution of the beloved free-to-play shooter is taking an interesting turn.
The sequel is expanding its gameplay by introducing new factions. Players will have to work together to build a team with characters from each of these factions, each bringing unique abilities.
Three different factions have been revealed so far: the Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask. Each faction showcases different abilities in the reveal cinematic, with the Meridian taking the forefront.
The Meridian are shown to use throwable portals, slow-motion forcefields, enemy scanning, and more, functioning as the team’s “mage.”
The Sabrask appear to throw shields, use ground pounds, and overall function as the team’s tank. The raw firepower that the Sabrask can be seen using may indicate class-based weaponry.
The Aeros, on the other hand, focus on speed and agility. The cinematic shows off one main ability for the Aeros: dual-wielding.
Splitgate 2 has a companion app that went live with the announcement. With the app, players can earn rewards to be used in the game when it launches and learn some of the game’s lore. Splitgate 2 will also have a five-issue comic series, with the first issue already available to read.
Splitgate 2 is expected to launch in 2025 and will be released on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox consoles.
