“Several publishers” are interested in Romero Games’ unannounced game

Following the layoffs at Microsoft, even those that weren’t immediately tied to Xbox felt the sting, such as Romero Games, which remains operational, but had to “reassess the entire staffing of our studio.” Well, after Xbox pulled funding for its project, several other publishers have reached out, interested in getting in on the action.

In a statement on LinkedIn, the studio, which was founded by industry veteran John Romero, didn’t disclose these publishers due to confidentiality agreements. As it stands, Romero Games never revealed what game Microsoft had its fingers in, but the important thing here is the studio is in a decently healthy state with publishers interested in what Romero has in store.

“We’ve been contacted by several publishers interested in helping us bring the game across the finish line, and we’re currently evaluating those opportunities.”

So far, his studio has a modest catalog mostly built around the DOOM mod, SIGIL, but also has the strategy RPG, Empire of Sin, remakes of the Dangerous Dave series, and roguelike Gunman Taco Truck.
