Sony expresses interest to “revitalize” the industry with more live service projects

Sony previously expressed interest in contributing multiple live service projects to the industry. Despite several projects falling under expectations, the company is maintaining its motivation to release the most ideal live services.

This was confirmed by Hideaki Nishino, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, during an interview with Famitsu (via WccTech). He believes that the broad audience is still interested with live service games, like Fortnite, Warframe, and Call of Duty. Many of these older titles are still popular on the PlayStation platform. While Sony is peeking at its older franchises, it will prioritize more to “revitalize the market” with its live service projects from both first-party and third-party studios, such as the upcoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which utilizes the Marvel IP similarly to the growing Marvel Rivals.

“We believe that live service games are content that attracts users on a global level, so we want to continue to revitalize the market through both first-party and third-party content. We are not only focusing on promoting new releases, but also considering what we can do with older titles in the medium to long term; Also, this year we are planning to release our own live service title, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and we hope everyone will enjoy it.”

The only confirmed first-party live service projects from PlayStation are Fairgame$ and Horizon Hunter’s Gathering. At the moment, they don’t have confirmed release date windows, though the company will reveal their latest details in the near future.
