Sony took Druckmann out of context during the “redefine mainstream perception of gaming” interview

Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has called Sony out for taking his answer about his next game out of context. In the end, he gave a long-winded answer that Sony cut down drastically.

On X, the game developer shared the full quote. Apparently during the editing process of the interview, whoever was tasked with editing scraped a good portion of the context behind the line. Particularly, he touched on games branching into other media, such as movies and TV shows. He doesn’t think it’s necessary, but it does help drive people into the gaming space.

This isn’t some shocking revelation, either. A good portion of the time, when a good TV show or movie drops based on a video game, people return to the source material. All the Fallout games, for example, saw a huge spike in player count following the release of the TV show on Prime Video.

We still have no clue when Naughty Dog’s next game will be announced, or what it will be. We know it will some time, as the American game dev plans on revealing it closer to release in order to avoid work-life balance issues and crunch brought on by strict deadlines. While some hope for a new IP or return to an older IP, we do know that somewhere rattling in Druckmann’s head is the concept for The Last of Part 3.
