Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director’s D&D game scrapped

It hasn’t even been a year and Hasbro has gutted an in-progress Dungeons and Dragons project headed up by ex-Respawn Entertainment staffer Stig Asmussen at his studio Giant Skull.

Bloomberg (via Eurogamer) reports Wizards of the Coast scrapped the project, with a statement from a rep noting it assesses concepts every step of the way. There might not be bad blood between the two, though, as Wizards has “great respect” for the Asmussen and the wider Giant Skull team.

“We assess concepts at every stage of development. While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.”

This doesn’t spell total disaster, as Wizards is still listening to pitches by the studio, but it seems whatever project was in the works wasn’t getting the lasting “oomf” power that Wizards — or perhaps the higher-ups at Hasbro — was hoping for. Another option is it would’ve been too similar or accidentally competing with Warlock, another D&D game in development, this time with Wizards’ own Invoke.
