Take-Two Interactive is now officially the new owner of Gearbox Software after striking a deal with Embracer Group. The deal also encompassed Gearbox Montreal and Gearbox Studio Quebec.

Announced on Embracer’s website, the deal included 8.32 million B shares of Embracer assigned to cover “certain earnout obligations.” An additional 2.08 million shares were also used for additional earnout obligations tied to Lost Boys Interactive.

In case you missed it, back in September, a Reuters report alleged that Embracer planned on selling off Gearbox Software. Jump to April, and it was revealed that it was, indeed selling itself alongside some of its directly named studios and IPs like Duke Nukem, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, Borderlands, and more. The deal did not encompass publishing rights to Remnant, Hyper Light Breaker, and some unannounced titles. The much-maligned game company also retains the rights to Lost Boys Interactive, Captured Dimensions, and Cryptic Studios.

Gearbox’s new parent has quite the notable studios and IPs under its belt ranging like 2K, Hanger 13, and Rockstar Games. In terms of IPs, it has the likes of BioShock, Red Dead, the litany of sports games created under the 2K brand, Grand Theft Auto, which has its sixth number entry heading our way relatively soon, and more.
