Capcom released a surprise roguelike mode, Leon Must Die Forever, for Resident Evil: Requiem on May 8. This comes after the base game released to positive reviews and performed as the series’ fastest-selling title, reaching over 7 million units as of April. Game director Koshi Nakanishi has also confirmed that a story expansion is currently in development.

This new mode may have the visual flourishes of Mercenaries, but Leon Must Die Forever instead incorporates roguelike mechanics, requiring players to battle through sections of Rhodes Hill Care Center, East Raccoon City, and the ARK; as well as powerful bosses like Hunk, Super-Tyrant, and Victor Gideon. The core roguelike mechanic involves defeating enemies to activate the Refine Enhancer and select modifiers influencing stats such as firepower, health recovery, and accuracy. A number of new challenges have also been added to Requiem that will reward players with thousands of new Completion Points for them to spend at the Special Content store.
Resident Evil: Requiem is out now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
