Following the quiet cancellation of Saw XI earlier in the year, Blumhouse is once again making efforts to acquire Twisted Pictures’ side of the Saw franchise rights. This would mean not only would it co-own the IP with distributor Lionsgate, but the franchise would be back in the partial hands series co-creator James Wan.
As stated by THR, Blumhouse, which recently merged with Wan’s Atomic Monster, was in the talks last year, too, but things fell through. Now, the talks are back and from the sound of things, it’s not gonna fall through in the same way it did.
Saw is a very important aspect of the horror scene, having only cost $1.2 million and taking home $18.2 million domestically and a staggering $104 million worldwide. It’s hard to say if this will actually go through, but here’s hoping that it doesn’t end up in limbo.
