Hulu will no longer be a standalone streaming service by next year, with Disney opting instead to merge it into Disney Plus. This is all in a bid to bolster its value.
During a quarterly earnings report (via Variety), Disney shared that Hulu will be integrated into its self-titled service to “create an impressive package of entertainment.” It will also lead to improvements to the Disney Plus tech, with new features such as an improved personalized homepage.
โToday we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+. This will create an impressive package of entertainment, pairing the highest-caliber brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and industry-leading live sports content in a single app.โ
The writing was on the wall that Hulu wouldn’t be a standalone thing forever as Disney introduced the other’s content onto Disney Plus just last year.
Additionally, with Disney fully at the helm of Hulu, it will become a global entertainment brand starting later this year, replacing Star internationally.
Hulu will continue as a standalone streamer until sometime in 2026.
