Disney has officially partnered with OpenAI through a new three-year licensing deal. This collaboration lets the tools of Sora AI and ChatGPT freely create various images and videos from established IPs of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and even Star Wars.
The deal also allows Disney Plus to stream fan-made Sora short-form videos during its service. Disney will invest $1 billion in equity in OpenAI, becoming one of its most prominent supporters. Robert A. Iger, Walt Disney CEO, recognized the AI market’s rapid evolution, emphasizing the company’s interest in managing the newly formed relationship with OpenAI. This decision widens the possibilities for AI tools, shifting every story and design under Disney through new development.
“The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence marks an important moment for our industry, and through this collaboration with OpenAI we will thoughtfully and responsibly extend the reach of our storytelling through generative AI, while respecting and protecting creators and their works. Bringing together Disney’s iconic stories and characters with OpenAI’s groundbreaking technology puts imagination and creativity directly into the hands of Disney fans in ways we’ve never seen before, giving them richer and more personal ways to connect with the Disney characters and stories they love.”
