Home Alone director Chris Columbus does not want Hollywood to remake Home Alone. Considering we seem to be in the era of remakes and reboots, we don’t blame him for laying his opinions on the table about the matter.
During a red carpet appearance, Columbus told Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t see the film as “this timepiece” but rather as “this very special moment” that you can’t recapture. He insists it would be a mistake to try and recapture it, especially as the film debuted 35 years ago.
โI think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you canโt really recapture that. I think itโs a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.โ
Now, it is worth noting that Columbus did not say we can’t see more of the franchise, just that Hollywood shouldn’t remake the OG film, which did get a new entry in the franchise with Home Sweet Home Alone back in 2021. Meanwhile, now-44-year-old Macaulay Culkin has said (per Comicbook) that he would be open to reprising his role as Kevin McCallister, but the money would have to be right.
