Shigeru Miyamoto made a surprise appearance to update the release date for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. It’s currently scheduled to debut on April 30, 2027, releasing earlier than the previous May 7, 2027.
Miyamoto also mentioned how the team is working hard to finish the movie as soon as possible for its public showing. The action-adventure movie is currently being developed with Nintendo and Sony Pictures, along with its main director, Wes Ball, who has previously directed The Maze Runner and Planet of the Apes.
There aren’t many confirmed details about the movie, though it will emphasize the journey of Zelda and Link in the Hyrule Kingdom. The early promotional material shows both characters, starring Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, viewing the landscape.
It seems the movie is taking inspiration from multiple Legend of Zelda games, since the huge landscape and Zelda’s outfit appear to be from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though Link’s outfit and Zelda’s normal weapon are from older Legend of Zelda games. Miyamoto may appear again to provide new updates about the film’s progression later, maybe even a new trailer.
