Netflix recently announced The One Piece, a remake of Eiichiro Oda’s classic anime pirate series. WIT Studio (of Spy x Family fame) are collaborating with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation to bring a refreshing perspective to the Straw Hat Crew’s first story arc, The East Blue Saga.
The recent trailer showed off smoother character animation in foes Alvida and Captain Morgan; as well as series star and pirate king hopeful Monkey D. Luffy. The One Piece will debut with seven episodes, covering over 300 minutes of the original series and adapting the most significant moments from the East Blue Saga: from Roger’s execution to the introduction of Luffy’s fourth crewmate, Sanji.

Director Masashi Koizuka offered a few words regarding the studio’s passion for the remake project. This reimagining is designed to remain faithful to the manga series whilst bringing new life to the now twenty-seven year old series through a revitalized art style, fresh facial animation, and remastered soundtrack.
“Every time we make a new episode, or even a new piece of art, I want it to move me personally. I want us to make something that we could even be fans of. That’s my mindset.”
The One Piece will stream exclusively on Netflix in February 2027. Season 3 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece is also in production.
