Paddington director tied to new Labubu movie

Whenever a toy brand or entertainment property beyond the movie and TV realm gets popular, it’s bound to snatch the attention of movie executives. This was the case of Labubu, it seems, as Sony has tapped Paddington and Wonka director Paul King to adapt the collectibles into a big screen picture.

In case you missed it, last month, Sony swiped film rights for the four-monster collectible line. Jump forward to earlier this month, and THR reports King is working on adapting the Labubu brand into a film. At this time, the project is in early stages, so not much is known about what to expect. Sony is working with brand owner Pop Mart on the project.

Labubu is a brand of three different monster figures originally sold by How2 Work before rights were acquired by Pop Mart, which started selling the monsters in blind boxes, creating demand. It also helped that the creepy-cute designs also attracted the attention of K-Pop groups like Blackpink, with member Lisa using them as accessories.
