Mattel has tapped TriStar Pictures to adapt its Whac-A-Mole into a film following the immense success of Barbie and calling its mole-based game “more than a game.”
Deadline reports that the film will be a live action and animation hybrid with Elizabeth Bassin and Steve Spohr overseeing the flick for Mattel Films TriStar’s Shary Shirazi and Kelseigh Coombs also there. Mattel Films president Robbie Brenner had this to say on the film’s development and how Whac-A-Mole is “more than a game.”
โWhac-A-Mole is more than a game. Itโs a laugh-out-loud battle of reflexes that has brought joy and a little chaos to families for five decades. Weโre beyond excited to team up with TriStar Pictures to turn the iconic experience into a wild, action-packed ride for the big screen.โ
TriStar’s president, Nicole Brown, similarly commented how Mattel continues to make an impact with its films, having come off of 2023’s mega-success, Barbie.
We’re not sure how Whac-A-Mole could be adapted into a real film, but we suspect it’ll be some sort of comedy involving with the moles animated and the people not. The story, though, is still up for debate.
