Asha Sharma’s recently discussed the upcoming changes to XBOX’s overall structure, which included a major round of layoffs. She had to close down several positions across multiple Xbox-owned studios, including Id Software.
According to a WARN notice (via Game Developer), Zenimax has laid off 158 employees in Texas. Most of the affected employees originate from Id Software, making the studio lose 136 workers. This came into effect after id Software previously released Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, a major expansion that included a new campaign and arrangement of content for Ripatorium 3.0.
Despite losing a substantial number of employees, id Software recently posted its current condition. The remaining workers in the studio are about the same number as when developing for Doom (2016), making the team currently capable of producing new games. The team is doing its best to support those affected by the layoffs before returning to work on other projects. What ID Software has in development could be revealed during its next appearance at QuakeCon in August.
