On the most recent GI Microcast, head of GamesIndustry.biz, Christopher Dring, revealed that the highly-anticipated platformer, Astro Bot, was created in three years with a team of 60 people.ย

In the 26 minute-long podcast, Dring and his co-host, Editor-in-Chief James Batchelor, discuss all of the recent summer showcases and look forward to discuss how the rest of the year unfolded. In the process, the development cycle timeline and team size of Astro Bot can heard mentioned by Christopher.

โ€œIโ€™ve played it, itโ€™s amazing. It took about three years to make, 60 people made it, I think it fits in withโ€ฆI think itโ€™s going to be an interesting little project that one.โ€ย

Astroโ€™s Playroom, the last title developed by Team Asobi, was bundled into every PS5 as a pack-in title. The game served as a tech demo showcasing the power of the PS5 and the features of the new DualSense controller such as haptic feedback. Despite its original purpose, Astroโ€™s Playroom was regarded as a darling among PlayStation enthusiasts leaving players wanting for a full-length title featuring the robotic mascot.ย

During the May State of Play broadcast, Astro Bot was officially unveiled and quickly became the most wishlisted game (via GamesIndustry.biz) throughout the entire string of summer showcases to follow, even beating out big hitters from Xbox and Nintendo. Astro Bot is confirmed to have over 80 levels, 150 PlayStation character cameos, and a slightly discounted price tag compared to traditional premium releases at $59.99.

Astro Bot is set to release September 6, 2024.
