Take-Two Interactive boss Strauss Zelnick has dodged the question on everyone’s mind; what will Grand Theft Auto VI’s price be? It’s still up in the air what the game will be priced at, but many believe it will be priced above the norm.
As Variety reports, it’s something Rockstar will address when the time is right, but assures people it will be a “fair price,” noting that it’s always had variable pricing, pointing to special editions as an example.
“Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we’ve had variable pricing at the company forever. As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing. I think, probably more than most, we’re highly focused on making sure that the experience is great, not just because the game itself is great, but also because consumers have paid a fair price for it.”
The idea Grand Theft Auto VI will be priced above the norm, as much as $100 for a standard edition, has been a point of contention for some time that Take-Two hasn’t stamped out or confirmed yet, which for every time it’s asked and promptly deflected, it feels more and more true. Obviously, only time will tell, but with Xbox potentially selecting certain games to be priced at $80, only for the sole confirmed $80 game being pulled back to $70, it leaves that price hike to be nowhere to be seen just yet.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on May 26, 2026 (after getting slapped with a delay).
