Sony seems very confident in Ghost of Yotei as its embargo lifts over a week before the game launches. This isn’t unheard of, but it’s certainly uncommon for developers to lift embargo so early from a game’s release.
Geoff Keighley shared on Twitter that he got a copy of the game for review and that the game’s embargo lifts on September 25 at 6 AM PT. Not only does this mean, assuming other reviewers got copies around this time and this wasn’t just a one-off instance thanks to Keighley’s connections, reviewers have ample time to play the game.
Using experiences for us, as example, if we do get review codes, which we disclose in accordance to our disclosure policy, we tend to get them at most a week in advance and oftentimes not until the day before or the day of release. Now, we’re keenly aware, Smash Jump is a small outlet, so bigger publishers or PR groups aren’t as likely to give us copies too early, but we are glad to see Sony is offering codes well in advance and letting coverage roam free for so long before launch.
