The special message from developer of Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake

in News

October 1, 2025

Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake brings back the beloved Fatal Frame sequel with the teamwork of Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. They previously revealed the game coming to every next-gen platform early next year, but recently sent a special notice to the public.

The developer’s note mentioned the motives for the remake by making the Minakami Village setting more creepy and unnerving for immersive horror. It doesn’t just improve the game’s graphics and atmosphere, but the controls and world’s design as well.ย

It was reported from the game’s trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2025 that the Fatal Frames director, Makoto Shibata, mentioned a new mechanic implemented in the remake: hand-holding. This idea was too difficult to add to the original game, which forced the studio to abandon the idea of strengthening the development between the Amakura sisters during gameplay.

“We added a new element: holding hands with your sister, Mayu; By doing this, the story, but also the action and the bond between the sisters is further developed.”

These new changes make the remake more fitting to welcome new players while giving a fresh, immersive experience for veterans.
