Xbox has announced Halo Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. It brings back the classic Halo campaign in a highly developed, fresh coat of paint in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
The gameplay trailer reveals the classic game rebuilt within the Unreal Engine 5 realm, showing enhanced 4K graphics, redesigned animations, and re-recorded voice acting. This remake also introduces new additions like three new prequel missions to expand the Halo lore, nine extra, iconic Halo weapons, and the sprint mechanic.
The remake mainly focuses on the original campaign rather than PvP multiplayer. Executive producer, Damon Conn, explained how Xbox wanted to return to Halo’s beginnings, welcoming new, broader fans to the Halo community. This also confirms that more plans are in the works for the series, giving more opportunities for new players to invest in the growing, immersive franchise.
โWe wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo; Starting here means people that have never played the game before will be able to understand the story from the very beginning, and that can help us chart a course forward with new Halo stories.โ
Players can connect via local splitscreen as duos or even online co-op with up to four players during the main story to face a greater number of Skulls. Its crossplay feature makes squad management more convenient between gaming platforms, especially for PlayStation owners.
