June 7 is a date to hold dear on your calendar if you’re looking to keep up with the most beloved IPs 2K Games has to offer. At this point, there are a couple of standout IPs that could be re-entering the spotlight.
As shared by the official Summer Games Fest Twitter, 2K will be sharing what’s next, though, it isn’t totally clear what franchises it’s referring to.

We’ll get this one out of the way — Borderlands 4 is among the worst-kept game industry secrets, with Gearbox big wig, Randy Pitchford, even labeling it his favorite Borderlands entry. Meanwhile, something like another BioShock would be a breath of fresh air, as we’ve not heard from series since 2014 with the finale of the Burial at Sea DLC. Outside of that, in 2016, we got BioShock: The Collection, but that was just a compilation of the existing series.
A new BioShock has been turning for a while, with Cloud Chamber — a studio comprised of many vets of the series — at the helm. It was confirmed in 2019 and it was said to be heading into development for the next “several years.”
Another very real possibility is Hanger 13’s next Mafia game, which has also not seen any brand-new action since 2017 with DLC for Mafia 3. Sure, we got the Definitive Editions of the trilogy back in 2020, but that only goes so far. That said, it was confirmed back in the latter part of 2022, which a two year window might be a little fast for a game that was said to be a “a few years away.” Two years might be “a few,” but game development takes time.
Whatever it is up 2K’s sleeves, we best be ready for something big heading our way on June 7.
