The horrid launch of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 hit a lot of fans hard as the studio was at the time boasting a largely flawless library. Sequel director Paweล Sasko is convinced that some fans are too far gone to be won back.
Speaking with Eurogamer, Sasko discussed the tragic launch of the cyberpunk-laden action RPG. In the end, he hopes the comeback is enough to win some people back and clearly it has been, with its DLC, Phantom of Liberty, getting praised and taking home awards.
“But I hope that, throughout the work that we are doing, throughout the things we are showing, we can actually win some of those people around – and when they hear someone talking to them about the incredible experiences they can have in, let’s say Phantom Liberty, or the next Witcher, next Cyberpunk, or next Hadar [CD Projekt’s new IP], at the moment when they see there’s that incredible value in that game, they will actually reach out for it, play it and enjoy it.”
The game’s launch was rife with bugs across the board, unplayable versions, and a generally poor experience. It was so broken, it even led to PlayStation yoinking from the PlayStation Store and issuing refunds, breaking its own refund policy.
Since May, the original Cyberpunk 2077 has come to an end with zero people working on it. Meanwhile, CDPR eyes releasing more games more frequently. The game’s sequel, currently running under the name Project Orion, is in development and is promising improvements from the original like “grander influence” based on your selected Life Path.
