Electronic Arts’ Skate reboot will feature over 100 songs from emerging artists and deep cuts to help players discover good music while skating through the in-game city of San Vansterdam. It also won’t be sticking to the same soundtrack forever.
Per a press release (via Eurogamer), the game will contain over 100 songs that will evolve over the coming seasons, as Skate is actually a live service title. EA taking the evolving songs route is probably the best in terms of business, as it means it could just take out a song once the license expires and it doesn’t wanna renew it. This sort of music licensing thing has always been a huge pain for game developers, even leading to games getting delisted over expired licenses.
“[Skate will have] over 100 songs, with hits from emerging artists and deep cuts to help players discover new music as they skate through San Vansterdam. Each session stays fresh and high energy, and like San Vansterdam itself, the soundtrack will evolve with every season.”
Currently, only six artists are publicly known — Denzel Curry, Turnstile, MF Doom, Earth, Wind & Fire, Little Simz, and Skeggs. The remaining artists are no doubt going to be slowly introduced to the public when it heads to early access.
