Amid large layoffs happening, Deck Nine Games, the developer known for co-developing The Expanse game with Telltale Games and creating the beloved Life Is Strange series, revealed it’s laid off 20% of its staff after suffering from “worsening market conditions.” It doesn’t make it clear how many people this equates to.
The dev took to Twitter to share the news, stating that these people were “amazing, talented, and awesome developers.” The studio, according to IGN, employed around 100 to 130 people before the layoffs occurred. Many of those affected wasted no time taking to Twitter, noting that the team was given only two weeks of severance pay across the board, even the people who spent over seven years there.

This wasn’t the studio’s first round of layoffs, back in May, as Game Developer reports, the Colorado-based studio laid off 30 people. This isn’t a shocking turn of events, many — and we mean many — studios are off on a lay off spree thanks to industry shakeups and general cleanup that happens during the first quarter of any given year.
