Cyberpunk 2077 is totally out of the pipeline now with no more devs on the team and the game generally succeeding in reviving its reputation among gamers. But, with so many games adding a new game plus mode, the question remains why CD Projekt Red never did… at least until now.
Speaking with DualShockers, quest director and Project Orion (Cyberpunk 2) game director, Pawel Sasko, explains that it simply isn’t feasible with the core design of Cyberpunk 2077. He notes that the game is “very specific” in terms of its construction and throwing something like a new game plus mode would clash with the game itself.
Bethesda’s Starfield — for as divisive as it is — was brought up as an example of a game that lends itself well to a new game plus situation, something that Cyberpunk “hasn’t really been thought through” in that regard. Really, the game can still be enjoyed without the use of a new game plus mode by just restarting the game in a different life path, for as little as they actually do, and specing for different builds.
There’s also still stuff to find buried around Night City with undiscovered Easter Eggs and secrets rife for the seekers.
“It’s to be replayed. It’s to try different life paths, try different romances, try different builds. There’s so many things that you can at least, twice or three times, have a very varied experience in 2077. So this is another answer, the game was built to be replayed that way.”
