Nintendo has finally, after years of speculation, rumors, and leaks, confirmed it will unveil the Nintendo Switch successor sometime “within this fiscal year.” This comes on the heels of the console reportedly being delayed into March 2025, with sources from massive media claiming its existence.
On Twitter, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa in a somewhat casual way said in no uncertain terms that “within this fiscal year,” there will be an announcement of what many dubbed the “Switch 2.” Meanwhile, he also simultaneously announced a Nintendo Direct focused on the latter half of 2024’s Nintendo Switch lineup, and very clearly states this new console will not be mentioned.

Unfortunately, there could be a long wait, with the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2025. Regardless, those waiting for some sort of mention of the future of Nintendo can breath of sigh of relief that it’s gonna get a new console. We just hope it’s gonna be backward compatible and just as supported.
The Switch has been its flagship console since its debut, with nearly a decade of support fans were worried Nintendo was getting stale and wouldn’t move forward, but here we are.
