Nintendo schedules new Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade packs for Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy

The Nintendo Direct has announced another batch of Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades for an established franchise: Xenoblade Chronicles. It previously received an upgrade with Xenoblade Chronicles X, though these enhancements bring much more than 4K performance upgrades for the mainline trilogy.

The trailer reveals the new features for the games, starting with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Its Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade will bring new equipment designs and fully voiced heart-to-heart conversations, making party developments similar to its successors. Its newest feature is the Ether jet, a motorcycle vehicle that makes traveling the expansive open areas much faster. It will also allow the party to drive in score attack and racing minigames, including the Future Connected expansion. These new additions are currently available through the digital Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade pack. The physical copy will be available on July 30, 2026.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the next game to receive its Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade, introducing new features for its Blades. It will bring new equipment designs for Rex’s reliable weapon and a new Blade with its unique Blade Quest. Its last new addition is Mercenary Squad Battles, a new mode for letting a controllable party of Blades fight in a unique battle system. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will release digitally on July 30, 2026, before its physical copy launches on October 1, 2026.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the last installment to receive its Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade. This enhanced version will add newly voiced events and a new Hero with a unique Hero quest. Its major addition is an isometric defensive roguelite mode for battling waves of enemies and receiving party members with beneficial buffs. Its physical and digital formats will be available on December 3, 2026.

These are the final confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades coming for this current year. Several games have already received various sizeable upgrades with the latest console, with some more to come depending on Nintendo’s upcoming support.
