As we rally closer to the upcoming Xbox Game Showcase, rumors are aflutter, with one such instance alleging Microsoft is going to bank off of the flash-in-the-pan shadow drop model once again. Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush was a smash-hit, but we doubt that it would happen twice.
In a recent video, established Xbox insider eXtas1s alleges that a first-party game is dropping without warning during the Xbox Game Showcase. While not confirmed, it’s believed that the game in question will be Stoic Studio’s co-op romp Towerborne, which hasn’t had time in the spotlight since its debut back on June 11, 2023.
Compared to other games on the lineup, Towerborne definitely strikes a smaller audience, scope, and brand compared to the rest of Microsoft’s lineup like Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It’s also all-too-possible that whatever’s getting shadow-dropped is something completely new that fans have no idea is in development, but at this point, we doubt anything is hidden from the from the internet.
Admittedly, we’re concerned Xbox didn’t understand why Hi-Fi Rush succeeded. Despite randomly getting axed alongside Arkane Austin and Alpha Dog Games, Tango produced hit games throughout its life, making the idea of getting a job in gaming kind of daunting now.
June 9 will earmark this hyped up showcase, which will be followed by a showcase dedicated to Call of Duty.
