S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 modding will take a lot of space

GSC Game World is introducing modding support with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Zone Kit, which is great until you find out you’ll need to clear a lot of hard drive space.

As reported by PC Gamer, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Zone Kit will take up a whopping 700 GB, which isn’t account for the 160 GB you need for the game itself. GSC knew it needed to explain why the file size is so large, which comes down to the assets being uncompressed and there being a lot of assets.

“The size of the mod kit is a result of the in-game assets being uncompressed for the mod makers. It’s a big game, and the assets are many, resulting in a considerable size of the download. The Zone Kit is currently in phase one, so we’ll explore the opportunities to optimize its size (if possible) in the future.”

It also confirmed on Reddit that it was released in the state it’s in — that being Phase 1 — so it could develop the kit alongside the community of modders that will surely latch onto the game and its ability for fans to not just tweak existing content but add new stuff, such as animations, weapons, mechanics, and more.

In our S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl review, we said: “Overall, there’s more good than bad here. While some parts of the game still need a bit of time in the oven, I can see myself coming back to the Zone.”
