Nintendo released its financial reports for the companyโs latest performance, including its Nintendo Switch hardware and software. The data reveals the Nintendo Switch 2 selling over 10 million units as of September 30, 2025, becoming the fastest-selling modern console in the current market.
It’s been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 broke the company’s expectations with its grand hardware achievement. Due to the company’s previous plans to smoothly transition players between Nintendo Switch consoles, 84% of Nintendo Switch 2 players transitioned from the Nintendo Switch, leaving about 16% of Nintendo Switch 2 owners as brand new players. The sales numbers shifted Nintendo’s forecast when surveying the Switch 2 performance, increasing the prediction sales to 19 million hardware units and 48 million software units by March 2026.
โHowever, as we mentioned prior to launch, demand has exceeded our expectations in some regions, leading to ongoing product shortages; We will continue to strive to meet the strong demand by ensuring a stable supply of hardware.โ
The sales for Nintendo Switch 2 software are also growing alongside the hardware, especially for first-party titles. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza provided stunning performances as the earliest, largest first-party games for their respective franchises. While DK Bananza earned the most critical praise for the revitalized series, World made the best performance on Nintendo Switch 2 with 9.57 million sales. The company sees nothing but potential for both titles as they become evergreen games for the latest Nintendo hardware.
The Nintendo Switch 2 specs also created opportunities for more third-party support from major companies like Capcom, IO Interactive, FromSoftware, and even EA. The devs’ stronger presence of software like Madden 2026 and Cyberpunk 2077 gave Nintendo’s latest console the strongest third-party lineup for Nintendo hardware.
The growing Nintendo Switch 2 sales did impact the Nintendo Switch hardware, causing the company to lower its forecast numbers from 4.5 million to four million. Even though Nintendo intends to transition its primary support for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future, the Nintendo Switch momentum is still progressing decently. Nintendo has mentioned plans to continue selling the Nintendo Switch hardware to satisfy any steady demand while following the software roadmaps for both Nintendo gaming platforms.
โWhile our business focus will shift to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch has maintained a steady sales pace even after the June launch of its successor. While taking consumer demand and the business environment into consideration, we will continue sales of Nintendo Switch hardware.โ
