The astounding growth of the latest Mortal Kombat

NetherRealm Studios previously halted upcoming support for Mortal Kombat 1 after the Khaos Reigns expansion, lasting only two seasons. Despite its short dev support, it earned over eight million sales in its third year.

In comparison, Mortal Kombat X was reported to have sold 12 million units, while Mortal Kombat 11 reached 15 million in sales. Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t beaten the total sales of either predecessor, though its performance is faster, accounting for over half the total sales of the best-selling Mortal Kombat game. It may continue to grow more within the fighting game genre, allowing the franchise to develop with a possible new gaming title.

The franchise is also developing beyond the gaming market with its upcoming film, Mortal Kombat II. It will debut in theaters on May 8, 2026.
