Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have decided to leave behind plans to release Mortal Kombat II in theaters in a crowded October in favor of a hopefully less crowded May 2026. The film’s test screenings went well, at least.
As detailed by Deadline, the choice likely is because WB knows it could draw more attention in May than the October block, especially since it was going to be a week away from Halloween, which isn’t so kind to theaters.
Mortal Kombat II stars Karl Urban as franchise mainstay Johnny Cage as he and the champions must stop Shao Khan. Jeremy Slater takes the role of its screenplay writer, Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and Simon McQuoid take on producer roles, and Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff take up the executive producer mantle.
Mortal Kombat II is now slated to hit theaters on May 15, 2026.
