The Persona series has recently grown out of its spin-off status of Shin Megami Tensei to its own mainstream franchise. This opportunity has allowed the series to sprout out to other entertainment media, including its recently confirmed live-action adaptation for Netflix.
The sources from Variety state Netflix’s interest in creating a live-action Persona TV series. Christopher Monfette, who previously worked on 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard, will fill in as the new Persona project’s showrunner and one of its executive producers. Several experienced representatives from Sega, 21 Laps Entertainment, and Story Kitchen will also cooperate as the project’s executive producers, including Toru Nakahara, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Robert Atwood, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson. Many of them are well suited for their roles from previous experiences in well-known creations involving the supernatural and video games, like the Sonic the Hedgehog film trilogy, Free Guy, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Life is Strange. Throughout the Persona TV series development, Emily Feher will be supervising the project.
The Persona narratives are usually adapted to more stylized animated movies or episodes. Live action isn’t new to Persona, but it will be the first as a TV series. The franchise already portrayed the stories for the latest three mainline Persona games in their animations, so the new live-action series could adapt to the first two Persona mainline games, one of the Persona 5 spin-offs, or even Persona Q, letting multiple Persona protagonists meet. Netflix may provide more details when progressing further in the live-action production, along with Sega’s upcoming projects.
