PlayStation takes down over 500 digital media from its users’ libraries

StudioCanal is a major European company that has brought over 9,000 films and TV series to multiple countries. It owns some of the most well-known projects, including Rambo, Sharknado, Terminator, and Tekken. PlayStation was one of the most convenient sources to stream StudioCanal’s IPs until Sony recently announced delisting 551 of StudioCanal’s projects from its platform.

Discovered by Kotaku, the delisting news sprouted from multiple social media users who received a notice from PlayStation. The company stated that the content license agreements with StudioCanal will hinder the availability of its digital movies. PlayStation posted a list of movies that will be unavailable not just from its digital store, but also from the users’ purchased library.

After September 1, 2026, no one can stream any StudioCanal product on a PlayStation console, whether purchased day one or not. Despite taking down a substantial volume of media, there was no mention of refunds for movie owners. Due to the company’s terms of service, the digital licenses can be taken down without a need to contribute funds for the users.
