Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have inked a deal to bring the legacy comic series, Archie, into the film medium. While not the first time the Archie brand has gone multimedia, with Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina already out, this will still be a big leap into a new audience.
The InSneider reports (via Variety) that the two filmmakers joined the film, but no details surrounding its plot or what to expect have been shared. Emma Watts joins Jon Goldwater as a producer. Senior VP of production development and director of production development Britt Hennemuth and Christine Sun oversee the project for Universal. On the writing side, comic writer Tom King is handling the screenplay.
Right now, we aren’t even sure if this Archie flick will be animated, but with Lord and Miller onboard and the general style that we could expect from the duo, we have a hunch that it will be. In the meantime, though, the two are pretty busy, with Project Hail Mary slated for 2026, alongside the third entry to the Spider-Verse dated for 2027, and a Spider-Punk spin-off film.
