Age of Mythology: Retold faces backlash as legacy art is being sold as DLC

While World’s Edge’s Age of Mythology: Retold is getting pretty well-received, the game has hit a small snag in its positive reception. Legacy artwork from the original 2002 game can be used, however, you need to pay for it.

As GamingBolt points out, while the game has a “Very Positive” Steam score, this specific cosmetic DLC, Legacy Deity Portrait Pack, faces a “Very Negative” score. Many understandably believe this should’ve been an option within the base game rather than an optional purchase.

It’s fair considering this has become a common practice to throw in old artwork as an option to give some sort of pseudo-games-preservation look. It’s worth pointing out, this $6 DLC is within a game that — for the base game — is the same price as its Extended Edition. Right now, the DLC sits with a measly 36 positive reviews in contrast to its 108 negative reviews, mostly all saying the same thing.

As for what Age of Mythology: Retold is, it’s a remake to the 2002 real-time strategy game by World’s Edge showed off during an Xbox Games Showcase earlier this year. It gives players consistent power usage, increased population, and more. The team is also adding new features like the Arena of the Gods and listening to the community and fixing things as it goes.
