In 2023, Friday the 13th: The Game was pulled from storefronts in preparation for the game’s total closure. The final moments of the servers online saw players dancing in a typical niche gaming scene way.
Back in mid-2023, Gun Interactive announced its license to use the Friday the 13th IP was expiring and it would not be renewing it, it led to a steep discount for last-minute buyers until it was officially pulled at the top of the year in 2024. The game would run through December 31, 2024, though, so in normal internet fashion, a dance party was set up.
A slew of people began sharing their dancing experiences in-game, per GamesRadar. The game’s death was inevitable, not only was its ability to release new content halted thanks to series creator Victor Miller’s copyright suit, but then to add to that, servers were closed in 2020, allowing peer-to-peer matchmaking as the only option.
Regardless, the game fostered a dedicated fanbase disappointed to see it die. Of course, Gun isn’t through with the horror multiplayer model, with it currently developing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game alongside Sumo Digital, which is basically Friday the 13th: The Game… but with a Texas Chainsaw coat of paint.
