Grand Theft Auto VI has been in development for over a decade to perfect every detail for the ideal experience of Vice City. This approach required Rockstar Games to delay the game twice, from fall 2025 to November 2026. Recent reports about the game’s current development imply that another delay may be taken into consideration.
Jason Schreier reported during the Button Mash Podcast that his last update on the game’s state wasn’t “content-complete.” The dev is still finalizing unique additions in Grand Theft Auto VI before transitioning to the bug testing phase for stabilized performance. The game’s massive scope requires a lot of time to analyze, which will force the developers to either push at a later deadline to meet the company’s ideals or rush the process to receive holiday sales.
He also reported on Rockstar’s desire to release the game in an ideal state within the current fiscal year. The developer wishes the game to be released as a complete product, forcing the studio to deal with various challenges during its massive development to reach its exceedingly high expectations. Its upcoming performance will greatly affect the stocks of its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
“It’s game development, it’s so complicated. The stakes are so high, they really can’t settle for anything less than perfection.”
If a delay is needed, it shouldn’t be as long as its previous delays since its fiscal year ends in March 2027. Any plans to release beyond its current fiscal year would greatly harm not just the company’s investors but its fans as well, which would hinder the game’s overall sales and hype. The November release is described as “more real” compared to its previous release dates, though more official details about the game’s progress will be revealed later.
