Sounds like Blizzard Entertainment is gonna wipe away the last PvE game mode starting with Season 11. Hero Mastery Gauntlet tasks players to band together and face off against bots, but it apparently didn’t have much of an audience as the studio hoped.
Tossing the announcement up on the forum, it was revealed that the mode didn’t resonate with players enough and it would discontinue plans to make it a permanent game mode. While it had its flaws, fans aren’t happy to see it go as it’s the last beacon of what Overwatch 2 was meant to be — a sequel the multiplayer-only game with updates and single player content.
The writing was on the wall, though. Hero Missions were stuck in the pipeline and more layoffs affecting the single player division. People are still not pleased with decisions made, particularly with canceling the introduction of the Hero Missions, which would’ve set the sequel game apart from its precursor. We still have just shy of a month before the mode is scrubbed for good.
It’s also worth noting, the mode debuted in March 2024, meaning Blizzard gave it basically no time to catch on before tossing to the wayside, almost like this was planned for the mode.
