Reclaim new possibilities in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

The newest trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero confirmed the return of a fan-loved feature to the Budokai Tenkaichi series, and it looks like this feature has been expanded upon in a big way. That’s right, “what-if” stories are back.

The trailer, which was unveiled at Summer Game Fest, teased what-if stories with what appear to be choices players can make during the game. One quick choice that came up was during the beginning of the Saiyan Saga. Players can choose to pursue Goku’s antagonistic brother, Raditz, alone or with help.

Some other potential changes to the original story are also shown off, including the potential of Great Ape Vegeta killing Krillin, triggering Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation, and a Father-Son Final Flash with Vegeta and Trunks vs. Cell. These choices that change the story are interesting and offer replayability, as well as cool reimaginings of Akira Toriyama’s masterpiece.

Only time will tell how deep the choices in Sparking! Zero go. It would certainly be interesting to see a completely different story compared to the original Dragon Ball Z. Given the potential for Goku to turn Super Saiyan early, it could be interesting to see a story of Vegeta not surviving his Earth invasion or Super Saiyan Goku confronting Frieza immediately on Planet Namek.

With Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero releasing on October 11, fans won’t have much longer to wait to get their hands on this exciting fighting game and find out how many changes they can make to the original story.
