Atari’s Infogrames acquires Surgeon Simulator IP

Atari revived the Infogrames publishing label earlier this year and has since been continuing its operation as a publishing label for Atari’s brands. Now, it’s acquired the beloved Surgeon Simulator IP from publisher tinyBuild Games.

In a press release (via PSU), Infogrames manager Geoffroy Chateauvieux calls out the IP’s popularity and timeless appeal. He also mentions that the team is excited to take on the IP and introduce it into the label’s portfolio.

“More than 10 years after the release of the original, Surgeon Simulatorย remains a popular and unique franchise. This was a rare opportunity to acquire a game with a timeless appeal, and we are excited to haveย Surgeon Simulator within the Infogrames portfolio.”

At this state, there’s no indicator of anything new coming to the Surgeon Simulator IP, but with the shakeup to higher-up leadership, things could change on a dime.

Surgeon Simulator has its roots as one of those popular games in the early 2010s, releasing in 2013, developed by Bossa Studios. It grew in popularity thanks its wacky gameplay and frequent playthroughs by popular YouTube channels. That let to a sequel spin-off in 2016 and a full-fledged, sequel in 2020 backed by tinyBuild, which took over the IP.

Atari’s Infogrames label, on the other hand, has its roots all the way back in 1983 before hard times led to merging into Atari itself in 2009. It was then revived in mid-2024 as another publishing label, acquiring both the rights to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 back from Frontier Developments and tinyBuild’s Totally Reliable Delivery Service. Additionally, not long after, it acquired and revived the Intellivision brand.
