New trademarks hint towards a new Death Note video game

A new curious trademark has been registered in multiple regions, sparking speculation that a Death Note video game may be in the works.

As reported by Respawn First, several new trademarks related to the hit anime series have been registered in different countries. In Europe, two trademarks were filed on June 12: “Death Note” and “Death Note Killer Within.”

In the United States, the situation differs slightly. Only one new trademark, Death Note Killer Within, was found, filed on June 20. This is not to say that the other trademark didn’t appear; there was a recent renewal for “Death Note” in 2020, unrelated to the standard trademark attributed to the anime. Both trademarks are held by Shueisha.

Death Note Killer Within is registered under two different classes, 009 and 041. The first class pertains to downloadable computer game software and wireless software. The second classification covers entertainment services such as online video gaming, especially accessed by mobile phones. Given the recent trend of mobile anime-based video games, it appears this new Death Note game may be a mobile title coming soon.

As for the other trademark, it could be related to the Duffer brothers’ Death Note series that was previously announced. Many fans anticipate an update on this series following the conclusion of Stranger Things.
